Description
Using pure dextrose corn sugar presents a great alternative for individuals aiming to enhance the fermentation process of their corn-based wash in distillation and brewing works.
By incorporating dextrose corn sugar, a notable increase in the Alcohol By Volume (A.B.V.) of a 5-gallon wash can be achieved, with each pound of sugar contributing approximately a 1% rise, while circumventing the challenges associated with managing a sticky and messy all-grain corn mash.
Use this corn sugar dextrose to make an easy mash corn whiskey base for this homemade whiskey recipe!
Adding a small amount of dextrose corn sugar (no more than 10% of total fermentation) will increase alcohol content with minimal impact on taste. However, a larger amount of the dextrose enzyme can be added as well for some spirit types (like Bourbon, which legally has to be over 51% corn-based). Please note that using dextrose sugar is significantly easier than using corn grain, but will not yield quite as much flavor.
A pinch of dextrose can also be used as a gentle starting sugar for your yeast activation, or as a boost in your starter wort! Secondary carbonation and fine tuning of flavor profiles in beer brewing can also benefit greatly from the use of dextrose sugar.
Regardless if you are distilling, brewing, or winemaking: dextrose is a winner to keep in the ingredient roster!
