These toasted Hungarian oak cubes are great for adding flavor to any barrel aged spirit when a charred oak barrel is unavailable, or impractical. Hungary has produced wine barrels for centuries, but only recently has the quality and unique taste of the oak being recognized in larger circles. The more common flavors imparted by Hungarian oak are butterscotch, vanilla, clove, cinnamon, or toffee. Truly a departure from the French and American oaks commonly found.
Although costing only a fraction of what a barrel would cost, and adding oak flavor to your spirit faster than a barrel, the flavor will not be quite as complex or have quite as much character as a barrel aged spirit. Please keep this in mind when ordering! However, this is an excellent way to hone your spirit’s flavor profile before you commit to a large and expensive barrel purchase!
You will receive a bag which contains 16 oz of fine Hungarian oak cubes. Our recommended usage is 3oz per 5-6 gallon batch, over a period of 20-30 days. We encourage you to experiment as well!
