This is a 2-inch stainless steel 2-piece ethanol distilling tower that can be used as either a pot still or reflux still. The 2-inch tri-clamp connector on this ethanol still tower will allow it to be clamped onto our 13-gallon milk can boiler, 8-gallon milk can boiler, or a used half barrel beer keg. You will need to purchase some packing materials (copper mesh or raschig rings) in order to use this for reflux ethanol distillation. We recommend the copper mesh (as it helps to remove sulfides that are produced by distillation) with a liter of raschig rings on top.

This stainless steel distillation tower includes a screened gasket to aid in holding packing materials and to encourage even distribution of the distillate on its way down the column. In many cheaper reflux stills the distillate runs directly down the sides preventing optimal reflux.

This review is based on an thorough inspection of the column for shipping, quality, design and workmanship, a review of the running will be posted soon. I received my column in a very short time, as others have stated. I rushed to open the box like a child on Christmas morning. As soon as I lifted the riser out of the brown packing paper the first thought that crossed my mind was that this is a lot heavier than I expected it to be. The quality of the materials used surpassed my expectations by miles. The stainless is very sturdy and the welds are near invisible. The thermometer is top notch and screws perfectly into the thermometer well and aligns in perfect order, straight up and down, not one bit to the right or the left. I am happy! I can assure you that these people are on their game, they ship quick and use only the best materials, and must have some of the best machining tools and welders in the country. You will not be disappointed by this work of art.

received my tower a few months ago and now have about five runs under my belt. Can’t wait to upgrade to the 4 inch bad boy.

I was initially seduced by a company that brags about the quality of their welds. So I invited Mountain Paw Paw (Mountain Man’s old man that’s welded everything in every way for over 30 years) over to inspect the quality of the welds. He was pleased with the quality of the welds and the quality of the finish. Like me, he couldn’t see paying more money just to feed some guy’s ego.

One pleasant surprise on the distiller tower was that mine was slightly different that the one shown in the picture. In the picture the thermometer port is on the opposite side from the Liebig Condenser (the arm coming down). The one I received has had the port moved 90 degrees clockwise (looking from the top) towards the condenser. That means, with the thermometer facing me, the condenser arm comes off the top down to the left. So, you may want to confirm with MD before you order, but for me, that worked out so much better.
